Art Education
Indira Bailey provides innovative art workshops for children and adults in the school and community setting. Ms. Bailey provides visual and cultural education that will flourish in the urban school and community environment. Workshops conducted by Ms. Bailey includes visual art, cultures influences, understanding the human anatomy, and art history. Each workshop incorporates the elements and principles of design. Indira creates successful art programs for local communities agencies, after school programs, career awareness and professional development. The goal of the art education program is to encourage artistic expression in children.

Each workshop is based on the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards for Visual Art: 1.1 The Creative Process, 1.2 History of the Arts and Culture, 1.3 Performing, and 1.4 Aesthetic Responses & Critique Methodologies.
Workshops for Students
South African Beadmaking
Learn about the South African Zulu tribe meaning of beads, their history and the significant of the colors. Each student will receive beads to make a colorful bracelet they can wear at the end of class. (CCCS 6.2 World History/Global Studies)
Japanese Calligraphy
Learn the "Shodou" style Japanese Calligraphy. This workshop is used as an art form by writing Kanji characters. Each student will learn the terminology and materials for writing Kanji characters. Students will see a demonstration on how to make sumi (ink) on a suzuri (container for ink) with the fude (brush). (CCCS 6.2 World History/Global Studies)
Sumei Painting
Learn the traditional and ancient Japanese Sumei painting techniques. Each student will learn the technique of brush painting and how to blend and combine colors. Students will make a colorful picture of orchids and blossoms. (CCCS 6.2 World History/Global Studies)
How to Write and Illustrate a Children's Book
Learn how to develop an exciting storyline and colorful composition. Each student will learn how to draw using perspective, the elements and principles of design. (CCCS 3.2 Writing)
How to Create a Comic Strip or Comic Book
Learn how to create an action and adventurous filled comic book. Each student will learn how to write a storyline, design a layout, develop characters, paint and ink the artwork. (CCCS 3.2 Writing)
Oil Painting
Learn the basic foundation of oil painting. Each student will learn the correct supplies and safety issues when oil painting. Learn how to mix colors and paint with values.
Drawing
Learn the basic foundation of drawing using charcoal or graphite. Each student will learn how to use drawing utensils correctly. Learn how to use values and blending techniques effectively.
Portrait Painting
Learn how to draw the facial features, hair textures, and expressions. Each student will learn facial measurements and values of skin tones. Students will draw or paint from a photo of their own. (CCCS 4.2. Geometry and Measurement)
Murals
Create permanent artwork on a wall or on moveable canvas. Students will learn how to brainstorm, design a concept, and use the scaling technique to draw the objects. You will learn how to use the elements and principles of design to create a colorful mural. (CCCS 4.2. Geometry and Measurement)
Adobe Photoshop
Learn the fundamentals of Photoshop tools, photo retouching and digital enhancing. (CCCS 8.1 Educational Technology)
Adobe Illustrator
Learn the fundamentals of Illustrator tools, brushes, coloring and painting, effects. Students will create and draw an illustration on the computer. (CCCS 8.1 Educational Technology)
